Sizes and fit

Mascot costume sizes: performer height and fit

Mascot costume sizes work differently from clothing sizes: what matters most is the height of the performer. Here is how sizing works, what our product pages tell you and what to send us before you order.

When you buy a T-shirt, you pick S, M or L. A mascot costume is different: it is a complete character — a head, a suit, gloves and shoes — and it has to fit the person inside it. The most important number is the performer’s height. Here is how sizing works for our mascot costumes and what to check before you order.

Made for adult performers

All the costumes in our mascot costume catalog are made for adult performers.

Each product page shows what we know about that model under “Set and specifications”. Where a model’s page lists a size, it is M–XL, and on a few models M–2XL. Where it lists a performer height, that is the range the model is made for. If a page shows no height, ask us — we confirm it for your order.

Why the mascot is taller than the performer

The character’s head sits over the performer’s own head, so a mascot usually ends up noticeably taller than the person inside it — which is exactly what children love. The viewing area is hidden in the design, in the eyes or the mouth of most of our heads, so the performer looks out through the character’s face.

That is why we ask for the performer’s height: the head, the viewing area and the body of the costume have to work together for the person who will wear it.

How the costume fits the body

The suit is worn like a jumpsuit. Where the character needs volume — a round belly, broad shoulders, big hips — the shape comes from padding or a padded vest worn underneath, not from the performer’s own build. Character gloves close the gap between the sleeve and the hand, and oversized character shoes complete the silhouette and keep the proportions right.

What about weight? It depends on the size and the materials of the character. Some product pages list the weight of the costume; for any other model, ask us and we’ll give you the figure.

Shorter or taller performer?

If your performer is shorter or taller than the standard range, tell us their height before production. We’ll adjust the costume or suggest a suitable model. A non-standard performer height is quoted individually, like other changes to a catalog model.

A few things to know:

  • Made-to-order models. Catalog models made to order are usually ready to ship in 3–5 weeks. For a model adjusted to your performer, we confirm the timeline before you pay.
  • Models in stock. An in-stock model is already sewn. If your performer is outside the standard range, check the fit with us before you order.
  • Returns. A model that we change at your request — for example, to individual measurements for your performer — counts as personalized: it is not covered by the right of withdrawal, while your rights in case of a defect still apply. So it is worth agreeing the height carefully before production starts.

One costume, several performers

Event agencies and venues often have more than one performer for the same character. In that case, send us the heights of everyone who will wear the costume, not just one. We’ll tell you whether one costume fits the whole team or whether two costumes for different heights make more sense.

Custom characters: height is part of the design

For a character made to your own design, the performer’s height goes into the brief from the start. In our bull mascot for a sports team, the technical layout of the costume showed the viewing area, the mesh in the eyes, the head, the costume frame, the trousers and the boots — and the height of the finished mascot, drawn next to a height scale.

Our fitting room tries prototypes on a performer, so the proportions work on a real person, not only on paper. More about the process is in our guide From logo to mascot: how a custom mascot costume is made.

What to send us

To get the right size the first time, tell us:

  1. the performer’s height — or the heights of everyone who will wear the costume;
  2. the model you like, or your idea for a custom character;
  3. where the mascot will work and how often;
  4. the event date and the country of delivery.

You can send it all through the quick price request or on WhatsApp — we’re available 24/7. Our FAQ answers other common questions about sizes, comfort and delivery.
