Custom mascots

From logo to mascot: how a custom mascot costume is made

You send a logo, a drawing or even a few words. A few approvals later, a finished character arrives at your door. Here is every step in between — shown on a real project, a bull mascot for a sports team.

A custom mascot turns your logo, your crest or your product into a character people can hug, high-five and take photos with. Brands, sports clubs, schools, malls and event agencies order them for the same reason: a character made only for you is recognized at every event.

How does a flat logo become a costume? Below are the steps every custom mascot goes through at our factory, with a real example: a bull mascot for a sports team that started from the team logo.

1. The brief: what to send us

You don’t need a finished design. A logo, a rough drawing, a photo or even a written description is enough. Add the event date, the country of delivery and the number of costumes — and, if you have them, your brand book or exact brand colors.

In return you get a price range and a realistic timeline. Custom mascot costumes start from $1,200 per costume, design included, and most cost $1,200–$2,200; shipping is quoted separately for your country, and import duties and VAT, if any, are paid by the recipient. What moves the price is explained in our guide What goes into the price of a custom mascot costume.

The bull project started exactly like this: the team needed a mascot for its games and events and asked for a bull based on the team logo — calm, strong and proud.

When you send us a logo or a character, you confirm that you hold the rights to it and allow us to use it to make your order.

2. The color sketch

Our designers turn the brief into a color sketch of your character. Nothing is sewn until you approve it.

For the bull, the designer first drew the character in lines, then in color: a strong bull with a friendly, calm face, wearing the same uniform as the team, with the logo on his chest so he is easy to recognize.

3. The technical layout

Once the look is approved, the character needs a construction. For the bull, we drew up a complete layout of the future costume from the front and the back, with all the technical details: the viewing area, the mesh in the eyes, the head, the costume frame, the trousers and the boots, plus the height of the finished mascot.

For complex shapes we also build a 3D model to get the proportions right, and our fitting room tries prototypes on a performer. This is also the moment to tell us the performer’s height — see our guide to mascot costume sizes.

4. Specification and payment

Before you pay, we agree a specification: what exactly we make, the price, the timeline and the payment terms. Production starts after you have approved the sketch and made the payment stated in the order confirmation or invoice.

Payment: usually a 50–70% prepayment for the costume; the balance and other terms are agreed directly with your manager.

5. Materials and colors

Our production manager suggests fabric and fur options that suit your character and agrees the colors and textures with you. For the bull, the samples ranged from faux fur and plush to felt and sequin fabrics. All our costumes are made with faux fur and fabrics — no animal fur.

6. Production, with photos at every stage

Then the workshops take over: patterns, cutting and sewing, faux fur work, hand-painted details, assembly and quality control. The head is shaped on a foam frame, and you receive photos of the head frame before the faux fur goes on — the last moment to adjust shapes.

For the bull, the client received photo and video reports at every stage of production: cutting the fabric parts, painting the eyes by hand, working with the fur.

7. Final approval and delivery

When the mascot is ready, we photograph it and shoot a final video for you; the bull was photographed from the front, the side and the back. Once you agree the final look, we pack the costume in a box with a protective cover bag and ship it by EMS with a tracking number, a commercial invoice in English and a packing list. Details by country are on our delivery and customs page.

The bull went to the team in its uniform, with the logo on its chest. Teams we have worked with tell us that when a mascot is at the stadium before and during games, the atmosphere is livelier and fans get more involved.

How long does it take?

The sketch and the approvals come first. After you approve the sketch, production usually takes 28–42 days, plus delivery to your country. The exact timeline for your character depends on the design and is stated in the order confirmation or invoice.

Tell us your event date in the very first message: we check whether we can make it in time before you order.

More than one costume?

Promo teams, clubs and venues often need two or more identical mascots. We make them from the same patterns and the same materials, so they match — ask about batch pricing in your brief.
